Religious Education

Religious Education is a discipline it its own right. This subject has its own body of knowledge, skills and understandings. Therefore, Religious Education is to be taught with the same academic rigour as other subjects in the curriculum. At St. Mark’s we strive to implement this educational understanding in our classrooms. The Catholic Education Office Melbourne (CEOM) has adopted a religious education curriculum framework titled Coming To Know, Worship and Love. St. Mark’s Catholic Parish Primary School adheres to this curriculum framework. There are exemplar units that have been divided into grade levels. Moreover, these units are congruent with the Catholic Liturgical Year and sacramental celebrations. These contemporary and user-friendly curriculum documents guide the classroom teachers when planning, teaching and assessing a topic for Religious Education. In conclusion, the student textbook To Know, Worship and Love is utilised in the classrooms support the exemplar units being taught.
